As I am sure many of you know by now, Judge Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed today as the nation's first Hispanic Supreme Court justice and the third female in court history. The senate vote was 68-31 to confirm. Nine republicans and 2 independents joined the majority democrats to vote in favor of Sotomayor's confirmation.
The 55 year old Sonia Sotomayor is the daughter of Puerto Rican Parents and was raised in a housing projects in South Bronx. She has spent the last 17 years as a federal judge.
I would like to congratulate Judge Sotomayor on her great achievement and wish her luck with her new position.

Actually I didn't know. I've been working on crafts like a mad woman for 3 days. But I think it's a good thing and will lead to a more balanced court.
ReplyDeleteGood to see that at least nine of the Republicans voted with the Dems on this... it was obvious that Justice Sotomayor was going to be approved and that is a good thing.
